Diet : Herbivorous, feeding on roots, leaves and seeds of aquatic plants. It supplements its diet with fruit.
Reproduction : From the age of 2 years old, mating and egg laying take place between April and May. The female incubates 3 to 8 eggs for 28 to 30 days.
Lifespan : Approximately 10 years in the wild.
Predators : Foxes, birds of prey, crows and ravens among others.
Status : Vulnerable; populations are declining.
