Diet : Herbivorous, feeding on rhizomes, aquatic and semi-aquatic plants, grasses and cultivated grains.
Reproduction : From the age of 3 years old, mating and egg laying take place between June and July. The female incubates 4-5 eggs for 23-25 days. The fledglings' first flight takes place 38-49 days later.
Lifespan : Up to 27 years in the wild.
Predators : Foxes, skuas, seagulls, ravens and birds of prey among others.
Status : Not at risk.
