Diet : Omnivorous , mostly herbivorous, feeding on acorns, seeds, leaves and fruit, but also takes insects, earthworms, small reptiles and amphibians.
Reproduction : Sexually mature at 1 year. Mating and egg laying occurs between February and July depending on the region. The 8-15 eggs are incubated by the female for 28 days. The young can fly up to roosting sites after 9-14 days.
Lifespan : Up to 12 years in the wild and in captivity.
Predators : The majority of land-bound carnivorous mammals.
Status : Rare in Québec. Once threatened with extinction in North America, conservation measures have brought about a marked increase in numbers.
