Diet : Omnivore, feeding on insect larvae, snails, shellfish, seeds, leaves and stems of aquatic plants. When available, it also eats fruit and cultivated grains.
Reproduction : From the age of 1 year old, mating begins sometime in March. The female generally lays 6 to 12 eggs, at a rate of 1 per day, between mid-April and mid-June she incubates them for 28 to 29 days. The duckling's first flight takes place approximately 60 days later.
Lifespan : Up to 20 years in the wild.
Predators : Eggs and ducklings can be the prey of fox, skunks, raccoons, and certain birds like crows, seagulls and birds of prey.
Status : Least concern.
