Diet : Omnivorous and opportunist, feeding on small aquatic animals, corn, fruit, nuts, reptiles, small mammals, birds and waste.
Reproduction : Females are sexually mature at 1 year and males at 2 years. Mating occurs between January and early March. The 4-5 young are born between April and May after a gestation period of 63 days, and are weaned after 17 weeks.
Lifespan : Up to 13 years in the wild and 22 years in captivity.
Predators : Bobcats, American martins, pumas, coyotes, gray wolves, red foxes and great horned owl.
Status : Abundant, not at risk.
