Diet : Omnivorous, feeding especially on molluscs, gastropods and shellfish, but also on insects, small fish and aquatic plants.
Reproduction : From 2 years old, mating and egg laying take place between mid-March and June. The female incubates 8 to 10 eggs for 29 to 31 days. The duckling's first flight takes place 40 to 50 days later.
Lifespan : Up to 15 years in the wild.
Predators : Foxes, birds of prey and seagulls among others.
Status : Not at risk.
