Diet : Omnivore, feeding mainly on plants, but during the first weeks of their life, the ducklings also feed on aquatic invertebrates.
Reproduction : From the age of 1 year old, mating and egg laying take place between the end of April and the beginning of June. The female generally lays 7 to 10 eggs, at a rate of 1 per day, which she incubates for 23 to 35 days. The duckling's first flight takes place 37 to 48 days later.
Lifespan : Up to 20 years in the wild.
Predators : Eggs and ducklings can be the prey of fox, skunks, raccoons, and certain birds like crows, seagulls and birds of prey.
Status : Least concern.
