Diet : Omnivore, its food is composed mainly of plants and grains. Before and during the egg laying period, the female feeds especially on aquatic invertebrates.
Reproduction : From the age of 1 year old, mating and egg laying takes place from March to April. The female generally lays 8 eggs (3-14), at a rate of 1 per day, which she incubates for 21 to 25 days. The duckling's first flight takes place 36 to 57 days later.
Lifespan : Up to 20 years in the wild.
Predators : Eggs and ducklings can be the prey of fox, skunks, raccoons, and certain birds like crows, seagulls and birds of prey.
Status : Least concern.
