Diet : Herbivorous, feeding on herbaceous plants, sedges, rushes and lichens.
Reproduction : The female is sexually mature at 2 years old and the male at 2 or 3 years old. Mating takes place between early July and mid-September. A single calf is born between May and early June after an approximate 9 month gestation period and is weaned after 7 months.
Lifespan : Up to 20 years in the wild.
Predators : Calves can be the prey of Grizzly Bears, Black Bears, Grey Wolves and Pumas.
Status : Near threatened; Canadian populations are threatened.
