Diet :
Omnivorous, feeding mainly on plants, but also on insects, fish, small mammals and young or sick deer.
Reproduction : The female mates every 3 or 4 years from the age of 3 years old between late May and early July. The embryo develops after a delayed implantation during the last 6 to 8 weeks of a 6 to 9 month gestation period. On average 2-3 cubs are born in the lair between January and March. They are weaned around 5 months old.
Lifespan : Up to 15 years in the wild.
Predators : Man, wolves and other Grizzly Bears that can attack cubs.
Status : In Canada the northwestern population is of special concern and that of the prairies has disappeared.
